Medan, September 30, 2026 – The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), invites students to participate in the Scientific Paper Competition as part of the Vocational Championship 2026 series.

This competition serves as a platform for vocational and academic students to present scientific ideas through systematic, data-based written works oriented toward solutions to various real-world problems in society, industry, and other applied fields.

Through this competition, participants are encouraged to develop critical, analytical, and evidence-based thinking skills through original research or literature reviews supported by credible scientific references. Submitted works are expected to demonstrate originality, depth of analysis, appropriate methodology, and practical solutions with the potential to create a tangible impact.

Competition Stages

The Scientific Paper Competition consists of two stages:

  1. Preliminary Stage – Scientific Paper Submission
    Participants submit scientific papers online to undergo a selection and assessment process by the judging panel.
  2. Final Stage – Poster and Exhibition
    Participants who qualify for the final round are required to submit a scientific poster according to the specified requirements. The posters will subsequently be exhibited as part of the Vocational Expo 2026 series and assessed by a panel of judges.

The assessment will focus not only on the quality of scientific writing but also on the clarity of arguments, depth of analysis, quality of methodology, relevance of solutions, benefits to society or industry, and participants' ability to communicate their ideas visually and persuasively.

Participant Requirements

  1. Open to active students of the Diploma Program, Applied Bachelor's Degree Program, or Undergraduate Program.
  2. The competition may be entered in teams of a maximum of 3 students from the same higher education institution.
  3. Each team must be supervised by 1 lecturer from the same higher education institution and faculty as the Team Leader or one of the team members.
  4. One supervising lecturer may supervise a maximum of 3 teams in the same competition category.
  5. Each participant/team may submit only 1 scientific paper.
  6. Registered participants or team members may not be replaced during the competition.
  7. The work may be based on research using primary/secondary data or a literature review using credible scientific references.
  8. The work must be original, unpublished, and must not have previously been submitted to or won a similar competition.
  9. The proposed idea must be relevant to the field and theme of the selected competition.
  10. Participants who qualify for the final round must participate in all stages of the competition.
  11. The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be contested.

Work Requirements

The scientific paper must:

  1. Discuss an idea or solution based on research findings and/or a literature review.
  2. Be relevant to the competition field selected by the participant.
  3. Meet the principle of originality and be supported by an Originality Declaration according to the format provided by the committee.
  4. Use English as the official language of the competition.
  5. Use scientifically accountable references.
  6. Do not contain data falsification, identity falsification, or any other form of misconduct.

For the final round, participants are required to create an A1-sized poster, in portrait or landscape orientation, in high-resolution PDF/PNG/JPG format. The poster will be exhibited at the Vocational Expo 2026 and will form part of the assessment for the final round.

Intellectual Property Rights over the work remain with the participants. The committee is granted a non-exclusive right to archive, document, and publish the work for administrative and promotional purposes while maintaining attribution to the participants.
