The history of the Faculty of Vocational Education of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is inseparable from establishing Universitas Sumatera Utara as the parent institution. Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was founded by the Universitas Sumatera Utara Foundation on June 4, 1952. The Governor of North Sumatra initiated this foundation to meet the aspirations of the people of North Sumatra in particular and the people of Indonesia in general. An Executive Board managed the foundation led directly by the Governor of North Sumatra, with the following composition: Abdul Hakim (Chairman), Dr. T. Mansoer (Vice Chairman), Dr. Soemarsono (Secretary/Treasurer), Ir. R. S. Danunagoro, Drh. Sahar, Drg. Oh Tjie Lien, Anwar Abubakar, Madong Lubis, Dr. Maas, J. Pohan, Drg. Barlan, and Soetan Pane Paruhum (Members). The desire to establish a higher education institution in Medan had existed before World War II, but the Dutch government did not approve it then. During the Japanese occupation, figures such as Dr. Pirngadi and Dr. T. Mansoer drafted the plan for a Medical College. After independence, the government appointed Dr. Mohd. Djamil from Bukit Tinggi is the Chairman of the Committee.
