Muhammad Husni Thamrin was born in Deli Serdang on January 8, 1964, and works as a lecturer at the Tax Administration Study Program of the USU Faculty of Vocational Studies. Usually greeted as Thamrin, he is engaged in studies related to Organizational Development, Organizational Management, Institutional Coordination, and Public Policy in various Social and Political Sciences fields. He started his primary education at Sekolah Dasar Negeri No.101770 Deli Serdang. 101770 (graduated 1977), then continued to SMP Negeri 15 Medan (graduated 1981), and SMA Negeri 10 Medan (graduated 1984). He obtained his bachelor's degree from the State Administration Study Program at the USU Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (graduated 1989). He later earned a Master's Degree in Regional and Rural Development Planning from the USU Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (graduated 2004) and a Doctoral Degree in Social Science from Diponegoro University (graduated 2021). Thamrin served as the Head of the Tax Administration Study Program of FISIP USU (2008–2013), Head of the Public Administration Study Program of FISIP USU (2010–2015), Head of the Taxation Study Program of the Vocational Studies Faculty (2021–2022). Currently, he is the Vice Dean I of the Vocational Studies Faculty of USU (2022–2026). His research and publications are on leadership models in improving the performance of craft SMEs in Medan. The contribution of this research from 13 hypotheses shows that, dominantly, transformational leadership in craft MSME owners has a positive effect on improving business performance. Thamrin also researched the strengthening of community participation in watershed spatial planning in Medan. The study shows the lack of attention from stakeholders in the form of outreach and supervision and does not place the community as an important part of flood control in Medan.
