Applied Bachelor's Degree Program

2024

The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was officially established in 2024 under the Faculty of Vocational Education, based on Rector’s Decree No. 4922/UN5.1.R/SK/PRS/2023, which ratified the approval of the USU Academic Senate regarding the opening of seven new applied undergraduate programs. Alongside Statistics, the six other programs introduced were Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Banking and Finance, Tourism Business Management, Applied Chemistry, Public Sector Accounting, and Digital Office Administration. The establishment of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics was driven by the high demand for professionals with expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, statistical computing, and demographic statistics. In the era of big data and digital transformation, industries, government institutions, and research organizations require human resources capable of processing and interpreting data accurately to support evidence-based policy-making. Moreover, North Sumatra, as one of the provinces with significant economic potential in the plantation, manufacturing, service, and tourism sectors, requires strong statistical analysis to enhance regional competitiveness. Through this program, USU is committed to providing vocational education that emphasizes mastery of practical knowledge and applied skills in statistics, enabling graduates not only to compete in national and international job markets but also to contribute directly to regional development and advancement. With a curriculum designed to be adaptive to the latest developments in information technology and industry needs, the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics, Faculty of Vocational Education, USU aims to become a center of excellence in vocational statistics education in North Sumatra and Indonesia, producing graduates who are professional, innovative, and of high integrity.
