Applied Bachelor's Degree Program

The Applied Bachelor’s Degree Program in Statistics at the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, is designed to equip students with knowledge and practical skills in applied statistics relevant to industry needs. With a curriculum that combines theory and practice, students will learn data analysis techniques, statistical computing, surveys, and sampling methods. The program focuses on developing analytical competencies, mastery of statistical software, and strong data interpretation skills to support decision-making across various sectors. Through a project-based learning approach and collaboration with businesses and government agencies, students gain hands-on, practical experience. This program prepares graduates for careers as marketing surveyors, data analysts, and professional statistical experts who adapt to information technology developments.

History

2024

The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was officially established in 2024 under the Faculty of Vocational Education, based on Rector’s Decree No. 4922/UN5.1.R/SK/PRS/2023, which ratified the approval of the USU Academic Senate regarding the opening of seven new applied undergraduate programs. Alongside Statistics, the six other programs introduced were Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Banking and Finance, Tourism Business Management, Applied Chemistry, Public Sector Accounting, and Digital Office Administration. The establishment of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics was driven by the high demand for professionals with expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, statistical computing, and demographic statistics. In the era of big data and digital transformation, industries, government institutions, and research organizations require human resources capable of processing and interpreting data accurately to support evidence-based policy-making. Moreover, North Sumatra, as one of the provinces with significant economic potential in the plantation, manufacturing, service, and tourism sectors, requires strong statistical analysis to enhance regional competitiveness. Through this program, USU is committed to providing vocational education that emphasizes mastery of practical knowledge and applied skills in statistics, enabling graduates not only to compete in national and international job markets but also to contribute directly to regional development and advancement. With a curriculum designed to be adaptive to the latest developments in information technology and industry needs, the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics, Faculty of Vocational Education, USU aims to become a center of excellence in vocational statistics education in North Sumatra and Indonesia, producing graduates who are professional, innovative, and of high integrity.

Data Scientist who masters statistical science in data analysis and management, utilizing computational skills to provide essential information.
Social Technology Statistician who masters fundamental statistical concepts for the social and demographic fields by conducting surveys in population areas.

Producing graduates with an average GPA of 3.5.
Producing graduates with an average study time of 4 (four) years.
Conducting at least one (1) research activity by lecturers and/or in collaboration with students.
Carrying out community service activities by lecturers and/or in collaboration with students.
Ensuring that at least 90% of graduates are employed in fields relevant to statistics within one year after graduation.
Increasing the proportion of statistical software usage in each course to reach 80% by the third year of the program.
Raising the level of student satisfaction with the quality of teaching and learning to an average score of 4.5 out of 5 in the student satisfaction survey each semester.
