Diploma Program

The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Diploma Program in Physics is a study program that provides vocational education in the scientific field of microcontroller/microprocessor-based physics.

The Diploma Program in Physics is staffed with exceptional individuals dedicated and certified to teach nationally. It is supported by the best facilities and infrastructure, including six laboratories that can help the effectiveness of education. Our study program is highly committed to producing intermediate experts with professional skills in microprocessor-based instrumentation use and maintenance, as well as basics with graduate profiles as instrumentation technicians, instrumentation analysts, instrumentation supervisor assistants, and instrumentation designers.

History

1965

The establishment of the FIN Diploma Program is inseparable from the history of the establishment of the Physics Department of FMIPA USU Medan where the brief chronology is as follows: The Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Syarif Thayeb, through his letter number 9683/Secret/BUP/1965 dated November 30, 1965, inaugurated the establishment of the Faculty of Pasti and Natural Sciences (FIPIA) USU which consists of four study programs: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Pharmacy.

1982

On September 7, 1982, the name FIPIA USU was changed to FMIPA, which stands for Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. In 1985, the Directorate General of Higher Education through its letter No. 488/PTDT/Sk/I-85 approved the opening of the Diploma 3 Education Program with 4 specialty tracks, namely: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology to meet the need for upper secondary teaching staff in various parts of the country. The Education Program ended in 1993 at which time the Diploma 3 Statistics and Computer program was opened. Furthermore, in 1994 at FMIPA USU 4 Diploma 3 Programs were opened at once, namely: Instrumentation Physics, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Analyst, and Pharmaceutical Analyst.

2022

On August 18, 2022, all Diploma Study Programs at USU were gathered under the auspices of the USU Faculty of Vocational Education. Since then, the Diploma Program in Physics has officially been under the Faculty of Vocational Studies based on the Decree of the USU Chancellor.
