Medan, October 2, 2026 – The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully held a Public Lecture entitled “From Campus to Industry: Future Challenges for Instrumentation Engineers in Digital Transformation and Industry Expectations” on Friday, October 2, 2026, online via Zoom Meeting. The activity was attended by the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs, the Head of the Study Program, lecturers, and students.

The activity featured Rudy Syam, S.T., Project Control & Performance Lead at Pertamina Algeria EP, as the speaker. The participation of an industry practitioner provided students with an opportunity to gain direct insights into developments in the world of work and the challenges faced by instrumentation engineers amid rapid digital transformation and the development of Industry 4.0.

The activity began with remarks and an opening by the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Dr. Solahuddin Nasution, S.E., M.SP., and the Head of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Rahmadhani Banurea, S.Si., M.Si.

In his presentation, Rudy Syam discussed various challenges and industry needs for professionals in the field of instrumentation, particularly in responding to developments in digital technology, automation, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and the application of technology in modern industrial environments.

Through this activity, students not only gained knowledge about the application of instrumentation knowledge and competencies in industry but also obtained an overview of the competencies, adaptability, and professional readiness that need to be developed from their time in university.

This public lecture is one of the efforts of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Instrumentation Engineering Technology to strengthen the connection between education and industry, while preparing competent graduates who are able to respond to industry needs in the era of digital transformation.
