Langkawi, Malaysia, August 2, 2024 – As part of the “The Global Nexus: USU × UUM 2026” series, the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting at the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), participated in an International Community Service event held on August 1–2, 2026, in Langkawi and Tuba Island, Malaysia. This event served as a manifestation of international academic collaboration through community service, while also reinforcing the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting’s commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in partnership with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and various partner institutions from several countries.
The delegation from the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting, represented by Dr. Sambas Ade Kesuma, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., and Ms. Risanty, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., accompanied Unievrsitas Sumatera Utara students as they participated in a series of community service activities alongside international participants. Through this program, participants had the opportunity to interact directly with the local community, gain insight into the lives of local residents, and foster social awareness through cross-cultural collaboration.
In addition to serving as a form of community service, the International Community Service program also serves as a learning space that brings together students and academics from various countries. Throughout the event, participants exchanged experiences regarding community empowerment practices, broadened their cultural perspectives, and built international networks that are expected to develop into various forms of academic and professional collaboration in the future.
At the conclusion of the event series, all delegates attended the Closing Ceremony and Cultural Night, which featured lively artistic and cultural performances from each participating country. The atmosphere, filled with warmth and camaraderie, reflected a spirit of mutual respect for cultural diversity and strengthened the bonds among participants that had been forged throughout their participation in the various programs of The Global Nexus: USU × UUM 2026.
Participation in International Community Service complemented the various collaborative initiatives in which the Universitas Sumatera Utara delegation took part during The Global Nexus: USU × UUM 2026, ranging from a Sustainability Workshop, academic discussions, and the strengthening of international research networks to community service activities. This entire series of events reflects the synergy between the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universiti Utara Malaysia, and partner institutions in strengthening the internationalization of higher education through collaboration in the fields of education, research, community service, and cultural exchange.
Through these various initiatives, the Universitas Sumatera Utara, together with all its partner institutions, reaffirms its commitment to continuously expanding international cooperation that supports the development of education, research, community service, student and faculty mobility, and innovations that benefit the broader community.
For the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting, participation in the International Community Service initiative has been a valuable experience in strengthening the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education at the international level. The program hopes that the collaborations that have been established will continue to grow through various educational, research, and community service programs that make a tangible impact, while also expanding a sustainable international academic network.
