The Faculty of Vocational Education at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has once again achieved a remarkable accomplishment through the success of its students in securing funding under the 2026 Student Creativity Program (PKM). The funding recipients were officially announced through the Letter of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Number 1792/DST/B2/DT.01.00/2026, dated May 22, 2026, regarding the Determination of Funding for the 2026 Student Creativity Program (PKM) Funding Scheme.

This year, two student teams successfully obtained PKM funding, representing the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry and the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics within the Faculty of Vocational Education. This achievement reflects the commitment of USU Faculty of Vocational Education students to producing innovative, creative, and solution-oriented work through national-level student scientific activities.

The first team secured funding under the Exact Research PKM Scheme (PKM-RE) with the project entitled “Development of a Chitosan–Cellulose Nanofiber Edible Film Derived from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches and Rambutan Peel Extract as Active Packaging for Post-Flood Red Chili Peppers.” The team was led by Inggrid Auralya Sandy from the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education. Team members included Crisya Lestari Siregar and Novaldo Imanuel Haloho from the same program, as well as Elfrida Yohana Sigalingging and Marthayuda Anwarta from the Undergraduate Chemistry Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). The team was supervised by Juli Novita Sari, S.Si., M.Sc.

Meanwhile, the second team received funding under the Futuristic Written Ideas PKM Scheme (PKM-GFT) with the project entitled “SEES (Smart Evacuation Ecosystem Shelter): An Integrated Ecosystem-Based Closed Shelter Innovation for Community Resilience in Extreme Volcanic Disaster Zones.” The team was led by Stefania Cristy Br Bangun from the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics, Faculty of Vocational Education. Team members consisted of Priscila Hani Loisa Turnip, Risma Ersalita, and Mayza Penesia from the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Statistics, as well as Christine Boutistha Dolok Saribu from the Undergraduate Program in Business Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP). The team was supervised by Enita Dewi Br Tarigan, S.Si., M.Si.

This achievement is expected to inspire all students of the Faculty of Vocational Education at USU to continue developing their creativity, innovation, and competitive spirit at the national level. The Faculty of Vocational Education also extends its appreciation and congratulations to all student teams and supervising lecturers whose hard work and dedication led to their success in securing PKM 2026 funding.

This accomplishment further demonstrates the commitment of the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, to supporting student competency development through research activities, innovation, and the strengthening of an excellent and competitive academic culture.
