The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, received a coordination visit from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of North Sumatra Province together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) USU to discuss opportunities for involving Community Service Program (KKN) students in the socialization and implementation of the 2026 Economic Census.
Medan, February 20, 2026 – The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, received a coordination visit from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of North Sumatra Province together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) USU to discuss opportunities for involving Community Service Program (KKN) students in the socialization and implementation of the 2026 Economic Census.
The visit took place in Room 305, Building B, Faculty of Vocational Education USU, and was attended by the leadership of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, heads and secretaries of study programs, lecturers from the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, representatives of the Directorate of Educational Development USU, representatives of FMIPA USU, as well as the BPS North Sumatra team. This meeting served as an initial step in strengthening strategic collaboration between higher education institutions and government agencies to support the development of national statistical data.
In his remarks, the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Dr. Solahuddin Nasution, S.E., M.SP., expressed appreciation for the initiative of BPS North Sumatra in involving higher education institutions in the 2026 Economic Census. The involvement of KKN students is viewed as a tangible contribution of the education sector to the implementation of a national census, while also providing relevant field experience aligned with students’ competency needs.
Remarks were also delivered by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences USU, Prof. Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., who emphasized that student involvement in the 2026 Economic Census would not only benefit BPS but also provide empirical experience for students in understanding the dynamics of statistical data collection in the field.
Representing BPS North Sumatra, Dr. Reny Ari Noviyanti, SST., M.Si., explained that the 2026 Economic Census is a national economic census conducted every 10 years, aimed at providing baseline data on all economic activities in Indonesia. This data serves as a crucial foundation for policy formulation and economic development planning toward Indonesia Emas 2045.
Through this meeting, BPS offered collaboration opportunities by involving KKN students in several activities, including: • Socialization of the 2026 Economic Census to communities in various KKN assignment areas • Supporting field data collection processes according to BPS needs • Disseminating statistical information and improving public statistical literacy • Acting as educational partners regarding the importance of participation in the economic census
This collaboration is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the 2026 Economic Census implementation while providing opportunities for USU students to actively participate in a national agenda.
The Faculty of Vocational Education and FMIPA USU welcomed this collaboration opportunity and expressed readiness to support BPS needs during both the preparation and implementation stages of the 2026 Economic Census. Follow-up plans will be formulated through further coordination between BPS, the Faculty of Vocational Education, and FMIPA to determine mechanisms, assignment areas, and technical aspects of KKN student supervision.
This coordination meeting marks the beginning of a stronger partnership between BPS North Sumatra and the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, as well as between BPS North Sumatra and FMIPA USU. The collaboration is expected to improve the effectiveness of the 2026 Economic Census socialization while providing valuable field experience for students.
