Medan, August 27, 2026 – The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as part of the preparation of the Strategic Plan (Renstra) of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The activity was conducted online via Zoom as part of efforts to strengthen the faculty's strategic direction and governance going forward.
The FGD was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Vice Deans, Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, homebase lecturers, the Head of Administration (KTU), Heads of Subsections (Kasubbag), as well as all education staff within the Faculty of Vocational Education USU.
The activity was opened and directly led by the Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure. In the direction provided, the importance of preparing the Strategic Plan as a planning document that serves as the basis for determining priorities, targets, and the development direction of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU was emphasized.
The FGD served as a forum for discussion among all elements of the faculty to provide views, ideas, and input regarding the preparation of the Strategic Plan. Through a participatory process, various perspectives from the leadership, study programs, lecturers, and education staff are expected to serve as considerations in formulating a more comprehensive faculty development strategy that is aligned with the needs and challenges of vocational education in the future.
During the discussion session, several lecturers also provided input and suggestions regarding various aspects that need to be considered in the Strategic Plan, including academic development, improving the quality of human resources, strengthening governance, as well as developing study programs and institutional capacity.
The input provided during the FGD became an important part of the Strategic Plan refinement process, so that the resulting document will not only serve as a planning guideline but also accommodate the aspirations and needs of the entire academic community of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU.
Through the collaborative and sustainable development-oriented preparation of the Strategic Plan, the Faculty of Vocational Education USU is committed to continuously strengthening governance, improving the quality of educational services, and realizing vocational education that is excellent, adaptive, and relevant to the needs of the workforce and developments of the times.
The FGD is expected to serve as one of the strategic steps in establishing a more directed, measurable, and sustainable development direction for the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, while strengthening the synergy of all faculty elements in realizing the institution's vision and goals.
