Medan, July 28, 2026 – A proud achievement has once again been accomplished by a student of the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Afif Falah Ahmad Damanik, a student of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting, successfully earned a Certificate of Basic Competency in Sustainability and ESG from the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
The competency certificate was awarded after Afif was declared competent in the fundamentals of Sustainability and ESG, which include an understanding of sustainability concepts, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and their connection to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The competencies acquired also cover fundamental aspects of sustainability, ethics and compliance, as well as the application of sustainability principles in daily life and the workplace.
The certificate was issued by the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, Universiti Utara Malaysia, on July 27–28, 2026. This achievement serves as evidence of the commitment of Faculty of Vocational Education USU students to developing competencies relevant to the needs of the workforce, particularly in responding to professional demands that increasingly emphasize sustainability and governance aspects.
For the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, this achievement also reflects the importance of strengthening student competencies through experiences and learning oriented toward global standards. An understanding of sustainability and ESG is expected to equip students to contribute to responsible, ethical, and sustainable professional practices.
