Lecturer of t Faculty of Vocational USU, Dr. Ir. Zikri Noer, S.Si., M.Si., together with a service team consisting of Juli Novita Sari, S.Si., M.Sc., Marina Wulandari Nasution, S.Si., M.Sc., and Dona Tiara Lubis, S.T., M.T., carried out community service activities under the Thematic Community Service scheme in the Damar Sari area, Padang Hilir District, Tebing Tinggi City, North Sumatra.
The activity, which took place from June to August 2025, aims to empower local batik MSMEs through training in making eco-friendly ink from natural ingredients and introducing innovations in more efficient and sustainable batik printing techniques.
In addition to lecturers, this activity also involved three students as part of a learning program based on direct experience in the field. The involvement of these students is expected to foster a sense of caring and practical skills in applying knowledge for the advancement of society.
Through a collaborative approach between the service team, MSMEs, and the surrounding community, this activity also contributes to increasing the added value of local batik products and preserving the environment by reducing the use of hazardous chemicals.
