Medan, October 3, 2026 – The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), demonstrated its commitment to providing globally oriented higher education through an international guest lecture. The academic activity, held online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday, October 3, 2026, carried the highly relevant theme "From Molecules to Real-World Application."
The event featured an internationally recognized speaker, De-Yi Huang, also known as Harry Huang, a SoIC Integration Engineer at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) Taiwan and an alumnus of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) Taiwan. The presence of a speaker from the forefront of the global semiconductor industry provided a valuable perspective for the development of knowledge among USU Faculty of Vocational Education students.

The activity was moderated and began with an official opening and the reading of a brief curriculum vitae of the speaker to introduce his academic and professional background. Entering the main session, Harry Huang delivered an in-depth and inspiring presentation on how fundamental concepts of chemistry and molecular science can be transformed into practical applications in the real world. He comprehensively explained that mastery of fundamental science does not stop at the theoretical level in the classroom but serves as a crucial bridge for solving various complex problems in the industrial sector.
One of the key points highlighted in the presentation was how a strong scientific foundation can open up broad pathways for global careers. Harry Huang shared inspiring experiences and strategic perspectives on the significant opportunities for graduates in science and chemistry to engage, innovate, and build professional careers in high-tech industries such as modern semiconductor manufacturing. Furthermore, the speaker explored advanced material innovations based on Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and the importance of applying modern analytical techniques directly integrated with quality control standards and the operational needs of today's global industries.
The presentation was followed by an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session that took place dynamically. Students of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education USU, showed high enthusiasm by raising various critical questions. The interactive discussion covered a range of interesting topics, from real challenges in materials research and the close correlation between molecular structure theory and semiconductor technology to tips and strategies for pursuing careers on the international stage.
The international guest lecture officially concluded with the virtual presentation of a certificate of appreciation to the speaker as a form of appreciation for the knowledge and time shared, followed by a group photo session with all participants and the speaker.
Through the organization of this international guest lecture, the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, continues to strengthen its strategic efforts to expand global networking. This activity also served as an effective platform for enriching knowledge, strengthening motivation, and preparing graduates of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry to possess excellent and adaptive competencies and be ready to respond to future industrial challenges based on digital innovation and sustainable development.
