Through the webinar “Sharia Accounting & Reporting!”, students are encouraged to understand the importance of integrity, accountability, and ethics in modern Sharia accounting practices
Zoom Meeting, May 20, 2026 — The Public Sector Accounting Study Program at the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Sumatera Utara, once again hosted an international webinar as part of the “VOC4SI Level Up” series, focusing on the theme “Sharia Accounting & Reporting!”. This online event, held on via Zoom Meeting, features an international speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norfaiezah Sawandi, a lecturer from the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy at Universiti Utara Malaysia.
This webinar was organized as an effort to broaden students’ knowledge regarding the development of Sharia accounting and financial reporting based on Islamic principles, which is currently growing globally. Through a comprehensive presentation of the material, participants were guided to understand the basic concepts, principles, and implementation of Sharia accounting in the professional world and modern financial industry.
In her presentation, Dr. Norfaiezah Sawandi explained that Islamic accounting doesn’t only focus on financial recording but also emphasizes the values of transparency, fairness, accountability, and compliance with Sharia principles. The material presented also broadened participants’ understanding of the importance of integrity and ethics in the preparation of Islamic financial statements amid global economic developments.
In addition to discussing the concepts and practices of Islamic financial reporting, this webinar also provided an overview of the opportunities and challenges facing the Islamic accounting profession in the future. This topic is considered relevant to the development of the Islamic finance industry, which continues to grow both in Indonesia and internationally.
Although the Q&A session took place with limited participant engagement, the webinar proceeded smoothly and provided significant benefits to the students. The material presented by the speaker was deemed effective in helping participants think more critically about developments in the modern accounting world, particularly in understanding the importance of ethics, transparency, and accountability in financial reporting practices.
Through this event, the Public Sector Accounting Study Program hopes that students will not only gain additional academic insights but also become increasingly motivated to actively participate in self-development activities and scholarly discussions within the program. Moving forward, student participation is expected to increase further so that academic activities such as international webinars can become more interactive, inspiring, and positively impactful learning spaces for the development of students’ competencies.
The “VOC4SI Level Up Vol. 3” event is one manifestation of the Public Sector Accounting Program’s commitment to providing adaptive, globally oriented learning that is relevant to current developments in the professional world and industry.
