USU Faculty of Vocational Education Holds Training and Coaching Workshop for the Indonesian Vocational Olympiad (OLIVIA)
Medan, May 16, 2025—The Faculty of Vocational Education at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a Training and Coaching Workshop for the Indonesian Vocational Olympiad (OLIVIA) as part of its efforts to prepare delegates for the upcoming OLIVIA X 2025 at Universitas Brawijaya. The event aimed to provide comprehensive preparation and intensive mentoring for students ahead of this national-level competition. Held at the Faculty Hall, the workshop was warmly received by students from various study programs who enthusiastically attended.
The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Vocational Education, USU, Drs. Gustanto, M.Hum., who in his opening remarks emphasized the importance of OLIVIA as a platform for developing the potential and competitiveness of vocational students. “This competition is not just about who wins, but also about how we grow and learn throughout the process,” he stated.
The first session was delivered by Mr. Darmawan Lahru Riatma, S.Kom., M.MT., who presented strategies for understanding the competition categories and the steps for drafting practical proposals and concepts based on OLIVIA’s guidelines. He also expressed appreciation for the students' enthusiasm. “The spirit shown by the Faculty of Vocational Education students today is truly remarkable. This is an important first step in unlocking greater opportunities for achievement in the future,” he said.
The second session was presented by Dr. Ir. Zikri Noer, S.Si., M.Si., who provided direct mentoring on the concepts developed by each participant according to their competition categories. He stressed the importance of aligning ideas carefully with the fields outlined in the official OLIVIA X guide, ensuring each concept is well-structured and has strong development potential.
Mrs. Marina Wulandari Nasution, S.Si., M.Si., warmly and interactively hosted the entire workshop. Throughout the sessions, students demonstrated active engagement, absorbing the material, participating in discussions, and sharing their questions and innovative ideas.
This workshop served as a platform for technical preparation and a means to strengthen collaboration between students and faculty in building readiness for a national-scale competition.
Through this event, the Faculty of Vocational Education at USU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting students in performing at their best in OLIVIA 2025. This coaching process is hoped to produce innovative ideas and outstanding teams that will bring pride to the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, on the national stage.
