Diploma Program

The Diploma Program in Travel and Tourism at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) was established in 1987 as a vocational education provider in travel and tourism. This study program focuses on the mastery and application of theory in the science of travel and tourism.

Mentored by experienced and knowledgeable teaching staff, the Diploma Program in Travel and Tourism is committed to preparing graduates to become experts or professional reviewers, researchers in the field of tourism, and professionals with cross-cutting skills, such as in tour guiding entrepreneurship, and hospitality management.

History

2011

On April 5, 2011, the Decree of the Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara No. 981/H5.1.R/SK/PRS/2011 was issued regarding the change of name of the Faculty of Literature to the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The change in the name of the Faculty of Literature to the Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Sumatera Utara also changed the vision, mission and goals of the faculty, and of course the Tourism and Travel Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences also changed its vision, mission and goals in accordance with the vision, mission and goals of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences of the Universitas Sumatera Utara

2017

In 2017 with the Decree of the Chancellor of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Number: 1526 / UN5.1.R / SK / PRS / 2017 concerning the Change of Name of the Tourism Study Program to Tourism and Travel for Diploma III at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Sumatera Utara. The Tourism Study Program legally changed its name to the Diploma in Tourism and Travel Study Program. However, for the reporting of accreditation form data, the Travel Study Program is the 2014, 2015 and 2016 academic years which still use the name Tourism Study Program.

Organizing education that is oriented towards the formation of graduates who have competence, morality, global insight and technical skills in the field of Travel and Tourism in accordance with the demands of the world of work.
Carrying out vocational education and teaching activities in the field of Travel and Tourism so as to produce reliable graduates in the fields of tourism, travel, travel agencies, travel agents, land, sea and air operations.
Improve services for students and other stakeholders.
Elevate networks and cooperation with private and government institutions as well as professional organizations and other institutions engaged in the world of tourism at national and international levels.
Organizing applied tourism research and service to the community to assist the development of industry, government and the wider community.
Develop an academic atmosphere among the academic community that allows for high productivity and quality of work.
