Diploma Program

The Diploma Program in English at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a vocational program exploring English science.

We offer four excellent programs: English for Specific Purposes (Journalism & Public Speaking), English-Indonesian & Indonesian-English Translation, Oral Translation, and Tour Guide Techniques. Our students are mentored by knowledgeable and dedicated lecturers. The English Diploma Program firmly commits to preparing its graduates to become intermediate experts ready to work professionally as interpreters, translators, tourism guides, and English teachers.

History

1987

The Diploma Program in English Language Study is under the auspices of the USU Faculty of Literature, which has now changed its name to the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The Diploma Program in English Language Study was opened in 1987, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture No.26/DIKTI/ Kep/1987 dated 13 June 1987.

2002

However, since June 27, 2002, the Diploma Program in English Language Study has been incorporated into the Faculty of Vocational Education. This study program was initially established to meet the needs of students who were not accommodated at the undergraduate level, especially in English. Then, seeing the great interest of students in the field of English, this is also the background of this Study Program.

Producing learning and teaching activities for vocational education that emphasize quality processes in English.
Producing graduates as future workers with knowledge in English and other related areas such as communication, archiving, conservation, and human interaction with computers.
To produce graduates with scientific and professional human resource qualities in English who can use information and communication technology.
Producing graduates who can do practical work in English, teaching, hospitality, banking, and other areas related to communication activities of information resources to the user community and producing graduates who can develop themselves (self-improvement) in their careers.
