Medan, August 10, 2026 – The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), continues to promote improvements in learning quality by aligning Semester Learning Plans (RPS) to focus on student learning outcomes or outputs. This effort was carried out through an activity on Aligning Semester Learning Plans with Project-Based Learning (PBL), held at the Faculty of Vocational Education USU Hall on Monday (August 10, 2026).
The activity was attended by the Dean’s leadership team of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Heads of Study Programs, lecturers responsible for courses in Religious Education, Indonesian Language, Pancasila and Civic Education, and Business Management, as well as the Head of the Academic Subdivision and expert staff.
The activity was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Prof. Dr. Isfenti Sadalia, S.E., M.E., who also delivered remarks and a presentation on aligning output-oriented Semester Learning Plans through the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL). In her presentation, the Dean emphasized the importance of aligning Semester Learning Plans so that the learning process does not focus solely on delivering course materials but also produces clear and measurable outputs and competencies. Through the PBL approach, students are encouraged to gain more applied learning experiences by producing projects or products as part of their learning outcomes.
Project-Based Learning (PBL) serves as an approach that can support more active, contextual, and outcome-oriented learning. Through this approach, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills through project-based learning experiences.
The alignment of Semester Learning Plans is also intended to ensure a clear connection between learning outcomes, the learning process, assessment methods, and the outputs produced by students. Accordingly, each course is expected to make a measurable contribution to achieving the graduate competencies of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU.
Through this activity, the Faculty of Vocational Education USU is committed to continuously strengthening the implementation of competency-oriented learning that addresses the needs of the workforce. The alignment of Semester Learning Plans based on PBL is expected to serve as a strategic step toward delivering learning processes that are more relevant, applicable, and impactful for student competency development.
