Medan, August 20, 2025 – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an Open Session to commemorate its 73rd Anniversary on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the USU Auditorium. Carrying the theme “Innovation Together, Impact for All”, the event served as both a moment of reflection on USU’s journey and a reaffirmation of its commitment to contributing to national development through innovations that benefit society.

 

The ceremony opened with a speech by USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., who emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening the competitiveness of higher education institutions. “USU is committed to producing innovations that are not only academically excellent but also relevant and impactful for society,” he stated.

 

The Governor of North Sumatra also appreciated USU as one of Indonesia’s leading universities. Joining the occasion, Chair of USU’s Board of Trustees, Police General (Ret.) Drs. Agus Andrianto, S.H., M.H., underscored USU’s strategic role in supporting national education, research, and innovation programs.

 

Through various ministries, the central government continues to encourage the strengthening of research and innovation in higher education, including at USU, to realize a transformative and adaptive higher education system that is in tune with the times.

Among the distinguished guests, 1,040 new vocational students also attended the event, symbolizing the spirit of the younger generation to take part in USU’s journey of innovation and contribution to the future.

 

The highlight of the celebration was a scientific oration delivered by Dr. Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, PGDipPID, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A., Ph.D., a researcher in One Health and UKRI-Southeast Asia on Infectious Diseases, who discussed health innovations in addressing global challenges.

Through the spirit of its 73rd Anniversary, Universitas Sumatera Utara reaffirms its commitment to continuous transformation, innovation, and delivering real impact for North Sumatra, Indonesia, and the world.
