Transforming Ideas into Creations – National Competition Preparation Bootcamp

Medan, May 19, 2026 – The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), organized a seminar titled “Transforming Ideas into Creations – National Competition Preparation Bootcamp” as part of its efforts to enhance students’ abilities in developing creative and innovative ideas for national-level competitions.

The event was held at the FMIPA USU Hall and attended by the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs of the Faculty of Vocational Education, the Head of the Study Program, lecturers, educational staff, and students of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry.

The event began with remarks from the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Dr. Solahuddin Nasution, S.E., M.SP., who emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of research, innovation, and competition among students. In his speech, he encouraged students to confidently express their ideas and actively participate in various national competitions as a platform for self-development and academic achievement.

The next remarks were delivered by the Head of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry, Dr. Albert Pasaribu, M.Sc., who highlighted that the bootcamp serves as one of the program’s strategic initiatives to prepare students to produce competitive, applicable, and impactful works for society. He also expressed hope that the seminar would motivate students to become more confident in preparing proposals and innovative research projects.

In the main seminar session, the keynote speaker was Dr. Adri Huda, S.Si., a lecturer from the Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Engineering USU, who presented a topic titled “Finding Ideas for Your Research Project.” In his presentation, he explained various strategies for discovering relevant and innovative research ideas, ranging from identifying problems in the surrounding environment, studying current research trends, to utilizing local potential as a source of research inspiration.

In addition, the speaker shared tips with students on how to develop simple ideas into research proposals with novelty value and strong potential for participation in national competitions. Students were encouraged to become more sensitive to current issues and to connect the knowledge they acquire with the needs of society and industry.

Through this activity, the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes to further motivate students to create, innovate, and actively participate in various academic competitions at the national level. The seminar also served as a platform to strengthen students’ competencies in developing creative ideas that can be transformed into tangible and highly competitive works.
