USU’s Banking and Finance Study Program Hosts Public Lecture with Global CFA Experts

MEDAN – The Banking and Finance Study Program of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully held a public lecture titled “The Inside of Private Equity” on Thursday, November 20th, 2025. Held at Mikie Wijaya Hall, the event featured international financial experts as part of an effort to strengthen student competencies for the professional world.

Bringing in International Practitioners

In an effort to support the achievement of the university's Key Performance Indicators (IKU)—specifically fostering the "link and match" between academia and industry—the Faculty of Vocational Studies invited two prominent figures from the financial analysis sector:

  • Steve Balaban, CFA: Guest Speaker and expert in the field of private equity.

  • Rahmat Sugiono Halim, CFA: Executive Director of CFA Indonesia.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies emphasized that the presence of globally certified practitioners is crucial for students to understand the professional ethics and analytical standards currently applied in the financial services industry.

Deep Dive into Private Equity

During the core session, Steve Balaban delivered an in-depth presentation on the mechanisms of private equity, the strategic role of financial analysts in investment decision-making, and the real-world challenges faced in global capital markets.

Student enthusiasm was evident during the interactive discussion session. Participants did not just learn theory; they were presented with real-life case studies to practice their analytical skills and application of business decision-making.

Achievements and Impact

The event aimed to provide more than just theoretical insight, delivering tangible benefits for students, including:

  1. Competency Strengthening: Students gained a comprehensive understanding of professional standards and work ethics within the finance industry.

  2. Career Motivation: Increased student interest in pursuing professional certifications to compete in national and international job markets.

  3. Industry Connection: Building a network between the study program and active practitioners in the financial sector.

Commitment to Vocational Transformation

Through this public lecture, the USU Banking and Finance Study Program reaffirms its commitment to creating a collaborative and adaptive academic ecosystem. The event concluded with a plaque presentation to the speakers, symbolizing a sustainable synergy between education and industry.

With the success of this event, graduates of the USU Faculty of Vocational Studies are expected to possess not only a degree but also the mindset and skills aligned with the needs of the business and industrial world.
