Medan, 15-16 July 2024—To prepare students for competition in the chemical industry, the Diploma Program in Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), conducted Training and Certification on the Laboratory Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Competency Scheme. This two-day event took place on Monday and Tuesday, 15-16 July 2024, at the Faculty of Vocational Education Hall, both online and offline.

The program was officially opened by the Faculty of Vocational Education Vice Dean I, Dr. Drs. Muhammad Husni Thamrin, M.Si. In his remarks, Dr. Thamrin emphasized the importance of OHS competency certification for students to equip themselves for competition in the chemical industry. He encouraged all participants to actively engage in the training and successfully obtain the nationally recognized OHS competency certificate.

This certification program aims to:

  1. Provide students with practical knowledge and skills for implementing OHS procedures in chemical industry workplaces.
  2. Enhance job opportunities for graduates of the Diploma Program in Chemistry in industries requiring OHS competencies.
  3. Offer OHS competency certification recognized by relevant industries.

All 13 participants demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout the training and passed the competency assessment successfully. They were awarded the OHS Competency Certificate issued by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), which served as valuable preparation for increasing their competitiveness in the chemical industry.
