Medan, March 4, 2026 – The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara organized a socialization event for the Outstanding Student Selection Program (PILMAPRES), which serves as one of the strategic platforms to develop student potential while enhancing student competitiveness at broader levels. The event was conducted online via Zoom and attended by the Acting Vice Dean I, Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, the PILMAPRES Coordinator, lecturers, as well as students from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts.
The socialization activity began with remarks from the Acting Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Dr. Solahuddin Nasution, S.E., M.SP. In his remarks, he emphasized that the Faculty of Vocational Education strongly supports high-achieving students to participate in this program. He also stated that student success in PILMAPRES cannot be separated from the support of various parties, including study programs and supervising lecturers who play a role in guiding and motivating students to demonstrate their best abilities. Therefore, active support from study programs and lecturers is essential to encourage students’ enthusiasm in participating in this competition.
The activity continued with the presentation of the socialization material by the PILMAPRES Coordinator of the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Juli Novita Sari, S.Si., M.Sc., who explained the PILMAPRES program in detail. In her presentation, she outlined the requirements for students who wish to participate in the PILMAPRES selection, including the need to complete various administrative documents and the stages of the selection process that participants will undergo. It was also explained that the winners of the selection at the Faculty of Vocational Education level will represent the faculty in the selection at the Universitas Sumatera Utara level. Furthermore, winners at the university level will have the opportunity to advance to the regional and national levels.
During the socialization event, Regina Alea Sihombing, a student of the D3 Taxation Study Program at the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, who was awarded Outstanding Diploma Student I at Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2025 and 3rd place in the 2025 Pilmapres at the LLDIKTI Region I North Sumatra level, also shared insights in the form of tips and tricks for becoming an outstanding student. These included courage, English language proficiency, as well as strong communication and presentation skills.
The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes that through this socialization activity, more outstanding students will emerge who are capable of bringing pride to the faculty and the university in various academic competitions. The PILMAPRES program is also expected to serve as a platform for students to develop their potential, enhance competitiveness, and foster a spirit of achievement among students of the Faculty of Vocational Education.
Through this initiative, the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the development of student quality—students who are not only academically excellent but also active, creative, and innovative across various fields.
