Medan, August 13, 2026 — The Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), took part in the series of activities of the 2026 USU New Student Campus Life Orientation Program (Pengenalan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru / PKKMB). The activity served as an important opportunity for the 2026 cohort of new students to become better acquainted with the academic environment, academic community, and student life within the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation.
Held at the USU Auditorium Field, the Head of the Study Program and lecturers of the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation were present to introduce themselves and welcome the new students. The activity took place in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere, marking the beginning of the students’ journey as members of the Study Program’s academic community throughout their studies at the Faculty of Vocational Education USU.
During the session, the Head of the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation introduced the Study Program and provided an overview of the educational process that students would undertake throughout their studies. The introduction covered the academic environment, learning process, and the importance of developing discipline, responsibility, and professionalism as vocational education students.
The lecturers of the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation then introduced themselves and shared information and experiences about academic life and university studies. They provided guidance on navigating the learning process in higher education, adapting to the campus environment, managing time between academic activities and student organizations, and building effective communication with lecturers and fellow students.
The session also addressed aspects beyond academics, with the lecturers providing motivation and an overview of student life throughout the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation. New students were encouraged to actively participate in the learning process, take advantage of opportunities to develop their competencies, and explore new experiences during their time on campus.
As a vocational education program, students were also encouraged to understand the importance of balancing theoretical knowledge, practical skills, discipline, and professional attitudes. These elements serve as important foundations for preparing students to enter the workforce and adapt to technological developments in the fields of metrology and instrumentation.
The introductory session was expected not only to provide an opportunity for students to get to know the Head of the Study Program and lecturers but also to serve as an initial step in building positive relationships between new students and the wider Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation community. Through communication and connections established from the beginning, students are expected to navigate university life with greater confidence, comfort, and enthusiasm.
Through PKKMB USU 2026, the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation welcomed all members of the 2026 cohort as they began a new academic journey. Every stage of their studies is expected to become a valuable experience in developing competent, ethical, adaptable students who are prepared to contribute to the workforce and society.
