Medan, August 20, 2026 — The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), received a visit from Japanese Consul Furusawa Ken as part of an introductory visit and an exploration of potential collaboration with the faculty and the Diploma III Program in Japanese Language. The meeting was attended by Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Junedi Ginting, S.Si., M.Si.; Head of the Diploma Program in Japanese Language, Murniati Br. Barus, S.S., M.Pd.; faculty members of the Diploma Program in Japanese Language; and representatives of the 2024 cohort of Japanese Language students. The meeting began with welcoming remarks, followed by a sharing session on potential collaboration between the Faculty of Vocational Education USU and the Consulate General of Japan.

During the sharing session, Furusawa Ken expressed his interest in building closer relationships with Japanese language-learning institutions in Medan, particularly the Diploma III Program in Japanese Language at USU. He hoped to interact more frequently with students through various activities, such as guest lectures, discussions, and educational sessions, as well as to participate periodically in academic activities.

Furusawa Ken also expressed enthusiasm for the Diploma Program in Japanese Language’s plan to hold a mini Bunkasai as part of the anniversary celebration of HMJ Diploma Program in Japanese Language HINODE. The meeting concluded with the presentation of a souvenir and a group photo.

Following the formal session, Furusawa Ken and representatives of the Diploma Program in Japanese Language continued the visit by attending a class of the 2025 cohort. In a more informal setting, he interacted directly with the students and shared his experiences, while introducing opportunities for closer engagement between the Japanese Consulate and the young generation of Japanese language learners at USU.

The visit is expected to serve as an initial step toward establishing more active and sustainable collaboration between the Consulate General of Japan and the Faculty of Vocational Education at USU.
