To develop a region, especially North Sumatra, good teamwork is necessary. Similarly, the academic community of Universitas Sumatera Utara, if they want to improve Universitas Sumatera Utara, good teamwork is also essential.

This was the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Jend. (Purn) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan in a public lecture themed "Development of Regions Based on Law, Politics, and Security." The public lecture, held on Monday (25/07/16) at the Gelanggang Mahasiswa USU building, ran smoothly and was attended by the entire academic community of Universitas Sumatera Utara.

Also present at this event were the Rector of USU Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., Vice Rector II USU Dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked (OG), Sp.OG(K), Director of the USU Graduate School Prof. Robert Sibarani, M.S., representatives of the North Sumatra Provincial Government, members of the USU Board of Trustees, members of the USU Academic Senate, Chair of the USU DGB, USU alumni, and USU graduate students.

In the public lecture, Luhut Panjaitan also explained the efforts and development strategies currently being implemented by the government, including equitable development especially outside Java, increasing competitiveness, and transforming commodity-based industries.

He revealed, "One example of these development strategies is the allocation of funds for village development. According to existing data, the allocation of development funds for each village in Indonesia has tended to increase annually, namely in 2015 it was 0.7 billion, in 2016 it was 1.2 billion, in 2017 it is estimated to be 1.7 billion, and in 2018 it is estimated to be 2.3 billion. The equitable allocation of Village Development Funds has significantly impacted the reduction of poverty rates in each village. With these funds, they can develop the village by building and developing the village's potential or local wisdom they possess, and according to President Jokowi, it is time for equity to be felt not only on the island of Java but also by every region and village in Indonesia," said Luhut Panjaitan, former Menko Polhukam RI.

On this occasion, Luhut Panjaitan also touched on the tax amnesty currently being programmed by the government. "The purpose of this tax amnesty is to gather a tax database to increase long-term tax revenue, increase tax revenue in 2016, and improve the tax IT system. With the achievement of the tax amnesty goals, the government can regulate the reduction of tax rates as well as strengthen tax law enforcement," said Luhut.

The definition of Tax Amnesty as expressed by Luhut Panjaitan is the elimination of taxes that should be owed, without the imposition of administrative sanctions and criminal sanctions in the field of taxation, by disclosing assets and paying a ransom as stipulated in the law.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., in his opening speech at the public lecture, expressed his gratitude to Menko Polhukam for his visit and for delivering the public lecture at Universitas Sumatera Utara.

“On this occasion, we, of course, as the leadership of Universitas Sumatera Utara, express our gratitude to the Minister. Despite his busy schedule, the Minister could still take the time to give a public lecture which is enlightening for the entire Academic Community of Universitas Sumatera Utara. Let us follow it carefully so that we can later reap the maximum benefits from the public lecture given by the Minister,” said the Rector of USU.
