The internship program in Japan has been running since 1993, thanks to international cooperation between Indonesia and Japan. The program aims to provide benefits to both parties, where Indonesia can improve the ability of its workforce in the industrial field, and Japan can fill the labor needs in its country. There are about 80 job sectors in this program. These sectors include construction, agriculture, machinery manufacturing, food and beverage industry, textiles, and other factories.

Most interns to Japan are channeled to company branches located in rural areas, given the lack of manpower in these areas due to the Japanese people's rampant urbanization culture. This program also aims to add insight and knowledge, especially to students of the D3 Japanese Language, D3 English, D3 Library, and D3 Travel Study Program at the USU Faculty of Cultural Sciences, related to IDUKA's perspective on internships in Japan.
