Medan, 05 June 2026 – The Diploma Program in Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Project-Based Learning (PBL) Showcase for the Entrepreneurship Management course as a form of project-based learning implementation that encourages students to develop innovation as well as entrepreneurial skills. This activity involved students from the 2023 cohort and served as a platform for them to present the results of projects developed throughout the course. The event was held at the Chemistry Laboratory of the Faculty of Vocational Education and was attended by the Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs, lecturers, and D3 Chemistry students.

This course is taught by Mrs. Wina Nurfitriani, S.A.B., M.M., and Mrs. Juli Novita Sari, S.Si., M.Sc., who guide students in integrating chemistry knowledge with business and entrepreneurship approaches. Through the showcase activity, students were not only required to produce products but also to understand the overall process of business planning and development.

In its implementation, each student group presented various innovative products they created, ranging from personal care products, household products, to natural ingredient–based products. Each product demonstrated students’ ability to apply chemistry knowledge into products that have functional value and added value for society.

In addition to presenting their products, students also explained various systematically designed business aspects. The presentations included production cost analysis, calculation of Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM), pricing strategies, profit projections, and business development opportunities in the future. This approach provided a more applied learning experience and brought students closer to the dynamics of business and industry.

Through the PBL Showcase activity, students gained real experience in integrating academic competencies with entrepreneurial skills. This activity served as a platform to train creativity, communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and business analytical skills, which are essential for facing an increasingly competitive job market.

The activity also received appreciation from lecturers and guests in attendance, as it demonstrated students’ ability to develop ideas into economically valuable products with potential for real business development. The enthusiasm of participants and the quality of the showcased products reflected the growing spirit of innovation within the Faculty of Vocational Education USU.

Through the implementation of the Entrepreneurship Management PBL Showcase, the Chemistry Study Program of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU reaffirms its commitment to delivering learning that is relevant to industry needs and current developments. It is expected that this activity will serve as an initial step in producing graduates who are not only technically competent in chemistry but also innovative, adaptable, and entrepreneurship-oriented.
