‘USU itself is preparing a vocational faculty. We hope this can be mutually beneficial. We are very interested in the vocational faculty and Polmed complementing each other. We can exchange lecturers or use shared facilities,’ said the USU Rector.

MEDAN-HUMAS USU: Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is preparing to establish a vocational faculty. This vocational faculty will replace the intermediate or diploma program. USU Rector Dr. Muryanto Amin, S Sos, M Si, mentioned this directly when receiving a visit from Medan State Polytechnic (POLMED) officials Thursday (24/2/2022) at the Rector's Office.

In his presentation, he mentioned that the existence of POLMED is necessary for USU. Moreover, USU will establish a vocational faculty. POLMED, which organizes vocational or expertise-based higher education, is sustainable with USU's plan to develop a vocational faculty.  ‘USU itself is preparing a vocational faculty. We hope this can be a mutually beneficial cooperation. We are very interested that the vocational faculty and POLMED complement each other. We can exchange lecturers and use shared facilities,’ said the USU Rector.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the two parties. The USU Rector called this signing a momentum to increase collaboration. According to him, POLMED is one of USU's essential partners.  ‘Later, this MoU will be followed by an MoA with the USU vocational school. The year has been very significant in its preparation. This vocational school will also use the UKT tuition payment system,’ he said. He also encouraged the development of infrastructure and equipment in POLMED. With the current situation, it is difficult for POLMED to develop according to him. This is based on the location of POLMED, surrounded by USU.

‘We maximize POLMED'S infrastructure for practice. We can only add more floors to the building. We cannot build many parks, even though providing green open space is important for a university,’ he said. Muryanto Amin also offered the USU Kwala Bekala Campus II land for POLMED to use. According to him, infrastructure and equipment development are essential things that must be addressed at Polmed.

‘We can offer the Kwala Bekala area. At least we expect POLMED to have 20 hectares of land. In addition, we can also find land for POLMED together. Indeed, we have to be rather insistent and work hard for this. We think together. In order to get a large area of land,’ he explained.  Director of Medan State Polytechnic Abdul Rahman Dalimunte SE, Ak, Msi, hopes that this cooperation can benefit both parties. He mentioned that this signing is the first step to open other collaborations.

‘The signing of the MoU this time hopes to have a good impact on both parties. There are many things that we can collaborate on. In particular, we invite the role of the USU Rector for the future development of POLMED,’ said Abdul Rahman.

In addition, he also mentioned that this MoU is a legal umbrella for cooperation in the implementation of the Tridarma of higher education. Moreover, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology instructed POLMED to increase the Gross Participation Rate (APK) which is included in POLMED's Main Performance Index (IKU). As is known, POLMED was previously part of USU. In 1999, POLMED separated from USU to become an autonomous higher education institution. Attending the meeting were POLMED Deputy Director for Cooperation Ing Heru Pranoto ST, POLMED Public Relations Handara Dimitri, USU Vice Rector III Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan S.Si., M.Si., Apt, Expert Staff Siti Salmiah, drg, Sp KGA, and Head of the USU Research, PKM and Cooperation Bureau Surya Darma, Sos.
