On August 28-30, 2024, Homebase lecturers of the Diploma Program in Chemistry attended training and competency certification in the field of spectrophotometric analysis in Bogor, West Java, with a focus on atomic absorption spectrophotometry (SSA) and UV-Vis spectrophotometry techniques. This activity took place at the IPB Convention Center and Universitas Pakuan Competency Test Site (TUK) and was attended by 28 participants consisting of lecturers and industrial practitioners from various fields of expertise, especially in chemistry.

In the era of increasingly rapid development of science and technology, increasing the competence of lecturers is very important to ensure a better quality of education. Spectrophotometry is one of the analytical techniques widely used in chemical research, both in academic and industrial laboratories. Therefore, this training is designed to equip lecturers with the necessary skills and knowledge to teach and conduct research using this method.

The practical sessions allowed participants to use the spectrophotometer device directly, where they could apply the theory they had learned. Exercises in sampling and data analysis are also conducted to enhance understanding. Upon completing the training sessions, participants took a competency certification exam that tested their understanding and acquired skills. The exam consists of theoretical and practical sections, where participants are asked to perform real analysis using a spectrophotometer. The assessment is conducted by a team of experts who are experienced in the field.

This activity is expected to positively impact the development of lecturer competence and improve the quality of teaching and research in the Diploma Program in Chemistry. With the skills gained, lecturers are expected to improve the quality of teaching materials and more interactive teaching methods, conduct research with more sophisticated analytical techniques, and guide students in research using spectrophotometry as an analytical method.

This training and certification activity is a strategic step in an effort to increase the capacity of lecturers in the Diploma Program in Chemistry. By following technological developments and improving their skills, lecturers can, it is hoped, make a greater contribution to the world of education and research. Hopefully, more similar activities can be carried out in the future to continue to support the development of quality human resources in the field of chemistry.
