The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, has officially partnered with the Indonesian Travel Agent Association (ASTINDO) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 2025 ASTINDO Travel Fair, held at Centre Point Medan Mall.
Medan, 31 October 2025 — The 2025 ASTINDO Travel Fair, organized by the Indonesian Travel Agent Association (ASTINDO), took place at the Atrium of Centre Point Medan Mall. The four-day event, running from 30 October to 2 November 2025, aimed to introduce a wide range of travel products and services, expand networking among tourism industry stakeholders, and strengthen partnerships with educational institutions to enhance human resource development in the tourism sector.
Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated through Drs. Gustanto, M.Hum., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Education, who represented the university in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ASTINDO North Sumatra Regional Board and several educational partners. The MoU seeks to strengthen collaboration between academia and the tourism industry in areas such as training, student competency development, internship opportunities, and academic cooperation.
During the event, Drs. Gustanto, M.Hum., also took part in a discussion session with ASTINDO representatives and other educational institutions, highlighting the importance of synergy between higher education and the tourism industry. He emphasized that partnerships between universities and industry are a strategic step to equip students with practical experience, professional insights, and readiness to face real-world challenges—particularly in the travel and tourism sector.
In addition to USU, the MoU signing involved Politeknik Negeri Pariwisata Medan, Universitas Pelita Harapan Medan, SMK Negeri 7 Medan (represented by Mrs. Evi Herawati Lubis, S.Pd., M.Si), and Universitas Darma Agung. The presence of these institutions demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening the connection between education and industry in order to develop professional, creative, and competitive tourism human resources.
Overall, the 2025 ASTINDO Travel Fair was held smoothly and successfully, attracting high enthusiasm from both participants and visitors. The event not only served as a platform to promote the travel industry but also as a strategic forum to foster collaboration between education and industry, creating new opportunities for tourism development in North Sumatra.
USU’s participation in this event marks an important step in strengthening its partnership with ASTINDO and opening up broader opportunities for cooperation in tourism education, research, and professional training.
