Medan – The Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation at the Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), has once again demonstrated its commitment to producing graduates who are well prepared to compete in the workforce. This commitment was reflected in the success of two alumni who secured industry employment immediately after completing their studies and receiving their Certificate of Graduation (Surat Keterangan Tanda Lulus/SKTL).

Previously, the Diploma Program conducted the Final Project Defense for ten students on Friday, 26 June 2026, in the Panel Room of Building A, Faculty of Vocational Education, USU. After completing their studies and receiving their Certificates of Graduation, presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Prof. Dr. Isfenti Sadalia, S.E., M.E., on Wednesday (8 July 2026), the program officially held a farewell ceremony for graduates who are beginning their professional careers in various companies.

The two graduates recognized during the ceremony were Mhd. Yunan Siregar (231713010), who has joined PT Ayodya Dialog Semesta in Pangkalan Susu, and Thoriq Aulia (231713044), who has started his career at PT Dakara Prima Indonesia in Medan. Their achievements demonstrate that vocational education graduates possess the competencies required by today's industry.

Acting Head of the Diploma Program in Metrology and Instrumentation, Junedi Ginting, S.Si., M.Si., explained that both graduates had participated in the Plug and Play Impactful Campus Program, which provides students with direct workplace learning experiences.

"Thoriq Aulia completed the program at PT Dakara Prima Indonesia, while Mhd. Yunan Siregar participated in the program at the Jakarta Regional Metrology Office (Unit Pelaksana Metrologi DKI Jakarta). These experiences provided invaluable practical exposure, enabling them to adapt quickly when entering the professional workforce," he said.

During the Even Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, 16 students from the Class of 2023 participated in the Plug and Play Impactful Campus Program. Beyond expanding employment opportunities, the program enables students to develop competencies aligned with industry needs. One participant, Chelsia, also earned a scholarship to continue her studies at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, marking another significant achievement for the program.

In addition to strengthening students' industrial experience, the Diploma Program continues to enhance student competencies through professional certification. One notable example is the SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Implementation Certificate issued by the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN). Thoriq Aulia successfully earned this certification with the distinction of "Excellent," demonstrating his mastery of internationally recognized standards for testing and calibration laboratories—one of the key competencies in the field of metrology.

The program also continuously updates its curriculum to keep pace with technological advancements and industrial digitalization. Strengthening competencies through professional certification, project-based learning, and collaboration with industry partners forms an integral part of its strategy to produce graduates who are adaptive, professional, and well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of the workforce.

The successful transition of these two graduates directly into industry, together with students' achievements in internships and professional certification, further underscores the Faculty of Vocational Education's commitment to delivering vocational education that is closely aligned with the needs of industry. Through this approach, the faculty continues to produce graduates who are competent, competitive, and ready to make meaningful contributions to national development.
