Universitas Sumatera Utara signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institut Français d'Indonésie, which took place on Thursday (23/06/16) at the BPA USU Building, Padang Bulan Campus. The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., accompanied by USU Secretary Prof. Gontar Siregar, Vice Rector II Dr. Fidel Ganis Siregar, Head of the International Affairs Office USU Dr. Esther Nababan, Head of the USU Language Center Prof. T. Silvana Sinar, Dean of FIB Dr. Budi Agustono, and Dean of FMIPA Dr. Kerista Sebayang, welcomed the collaboration and expressed gratitude for the opening of cooperation opportunities with Alliance Française Medan.

He stated that the collaboration between USU and the Institut Français d'Indonésie through Alliance Française Medan has been ongoing since the tenure of the previous Rector. This collaboration, he said, includes the opening of French language classes at Level A1 and Level A2. USU also has a French Corner, inaugurated in 2014 and located at the USU Language Center. "This year, there are also two teaching staff members continuing their doctoral studies in France through LPDP scholarships. They are Ms. Vivi, who is pursuing her Ph.D. at Université de Poitiers, and Ms. Joiverdia, who is pursuing her Ph.D. at one of the universities in France," said the Rector.

The Rector hopes that this collaboration can continue in the future with broader and more varied programs, and that more USU teaching staff will continue their doctoral studies in France. Meanwhile, Antoine Devencoux du Buysson, Attaché of the French Embassy in Indonesia, accompanied by Thomas Simoes (Director of Alliance Française Medan), Pogy Kurniawan (President of Alliance Française Medan), Debbie Rosaline (Campus France), and Irma Tobing (Responsible for Pedagogy), expressed gratitude for the implementation of this collaboration.

He mentioned that the cooperation with USU is very important as both institutions benefit from it. He acknowledged that the collaboration has been going well, such as the French language classes and the French Corner. "I also hope that with this MoU, it will further open opportunities for both parties to develop cooperation programs in a broader direction," concluded Antoine.
