HIMASTA USU held the Islamic New Student Orientation (PMBI) 2023 for the second time, following the first PMBI for 2022 students initiated by the 2021 Muslim cohort, inspired by their Christian peers who had long been organizing similar events. Similar to last year, this year's PMBI adopted the theme "United in Islamic Brotherhood: Shaping Islamic Character in Campus Life." The event lasted for 5 hours. Although only 5 hours long, a few days prior, the organizing team prepared a challenge for the participants to create an educational video expected to be beneficial for them and many others.
The PMBI event took place at the Anjungan Melayu Building on October 22, 2023, early Sunday morning. The event began with an opening by the MCs, Nur Maulidya and Juliyanti Armaya. To ensure the event ran smoothly, a prayer was conducted. Then the event proceeded with opening remarks from the Secretary of the Statistics Program, Mr. Tulus Joseph Herianto S.Si., M.Si. The next remarks were given by the Head of the Committee, Ariza Muhaimin, and the Chairman of HIMASTA, Jhonryanto Lumban Gaol. After the opening remarks, the main event featured a speech and sermon delivered by Mr. Drs. Syafril Barus MA. Following this, there was a sharing session with alumni of the Statistics department, which became a highly anticipated and exciting segment as participants could exchange stories and share experiences with the alumni.
After the ISHOMA break, it was time for games. The games included rubber band relays, quizzes, and musical chairs. The games were lively and competitive. Through these activities, students could get to know each other better, aligning with the event's goal. Besides becoming more acquainted, they were also given the opportunity to hone teamwork, general skills, and more. To make the event more engaging, the organizing team also prepared attractive prizes for the winners.
