The Applied Bachelor’s Degree Program in Chemistry held a workshop on scientific writing using AI technology.
Medan, September 24, 2025 – The Applied Bachelor’s Degree Program in Chemistry, Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully held a Workshop on Scientific Writing Utilizing AI Technology on Wednesday (24/9) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) USU.
The event began with an opening by the MC, Inggrid Auralya Sandy, followed by the singing of the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, and a prayer reading. The program was officially opened with remarks from the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Drs. Gustanto, M.Hum., emphasized the importance of scientific writing skills for students as a vital form of academic contribution.
Further remarks were delivered by the Head of the Applied Bachelor’s Degree Program in Chemistry, Drs. Albert Pasaribu, M.Sc., expressed appreciation for the workshop as a platform to enhance students’ ability to write scientific works relevant to technological developments. After a group photo session, the event continued with the presentation of a token of appreciation to the speaker, Dr. Amalia, S.T., M.T., Head of the Computer Science Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (Fasilkom-TI) USU.
In her presentation, Dr. Amalia discussed the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the scientific writing process, from literature searching and data processing to developing more systematic drafts. She emphasized the importance of using AI wisely and responsibly, positioning it as a supporting tool that accelerates writing without compromising originality, critical thinking, and academic ethics.
The activity received enthusiastic responses from participating students, as reflected in their active engagement during the Q&A session. This workshop is expected to enhance the quality of students’ written works and broaden their understanding of how to utilize modern technology effectively to support research and scientific publication. Furthermore, it serves as valuable preparation for students to participate in various academic competitions, such as the Student Creativity Program (PKM) and other scientific contests.
