Workshop on the Development of Outstanding Learning Products through Project-Based Learning
Medan, April 30, 2026 — The Faculty of Vocational Education at Universitas Sumatera Utara organized a Workshop on the Development of Outstanding Learning Products through Project-Based Learning (PBL). The workshop was conducted online via Zoom and attended by speakers, the Acting Vice Dean I, heads and secretaries of study programs, lecturers, administrative staff, and students of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU.
The event was officially opened by the Acting Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU, Dr. Solahuddin Nasution. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of implementing Project-Based Learning as a learning approach that encourages students to produce innovative, applicable, and competitive products.
The workshop then continued with the first presentation session delivered by Anggi Rahmad Zulfikar, Chairman of the Indonesian Vocational Olympiad (OLIVIA) XI. He explained the structure of the OLIVIA XI 2026 competition, competition categories, implementation schemes, general participant regulations, participation rules, document requirements, as well as participant registration and submission guidelines to help students of the Faculty of Vocational Education USU better understand the competition process.
The second session was delivered by Dr. Azna Abrori, a member of the Student Competition Development Division of the Indonesian Vocational Olympiad (OLIVIA) under the Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum (FPTVI). In the session, she explained the importance of student participation in OLIVIA, the competition timeline and registration mechanisms, and also provided motivation and a champion mindset for students. She further discussed strategies for building team confidence as well as preparing proposals and project outputs effectively.
Workshop participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the sessions, which included presentations, interactive discussions, and experience-sharing activities related to developing project-based products. This activity is expected to serve as a concrete step toward improving the quality of learning outcomes at the Faculty of Vocational Education, particularly in producing innovative student works that are ready to compete at national and international levels.
Through this workshop, the Faculty of Vocational Education USU continues to promote a more adaptive, creative, and relevant transformation in learning, aligned with current developments and the evolving needs of the workforce.
