Medan, 12 December 2025 – The Faculty of Vocational Education of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted a study visit and benchmarking activity on the implementation of Teaching Factory (TEFA) at the Vocational School of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) on 12–13 December 2025. This activity aimed to explore best practices in the implementation of TEFA as a practice-based learning model integrated with the needs of industry.

The series of activities began with discussions on the concept and management of the Teaching Factory together with the leadership and management team of the IPB Vocational School. The discussions covered strategies for TEFA implementation, integration with an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, and the strengthening of partnerships with industry.

Furthermore, the delegation from the Faculty of Vocational Education USU visited the Business Clinic of the IPB Vocational School to directly observe the management of business units that support vocational learning. The activities continued with visits to several Teaching Factory (TEFA) units within the IPB Vocational School to observe production processes, operational management, and the utilization of industry-standard practical facilities.

The discussions and presentations were conducted in a collaborative atmosphere in the meeting room, involving leaders and cross-unit working teams. Participants actively followed the presentations displayed on screen, accompanied by discussions and exchanges of ideas to strengthen planning and future program development. This activity served as a forum for coordination and alignment of vision to enhance institutional performance and service quality.

A warm sense of togetherness was also evident during informal moments in the open campus area. Lecturers and staff sat together engaging in light conversations, laughter, and refreshments, reflecting a close and familial relationship. This moment provided a refreshing break that strengthened bonds, fostered camaraderie, and nurtured a spirit of togetherness amid daily academic and professional activities.

Through this activity, the Faculty of Vocational Education USU gained strategic insights and references related to the development of sustainable, effective Teaching Factory models that are relevant to industry needs. The results of this benchmarking are expected to serve as a foundation for strengthening the implementation of TEFA at the Faculty of Vocational Education USU in order to enhance the quality of vocational learning and graduates’ readiness to enter the workforce.
