USU VOCATIONAL - UITM COLLABORATION TO MAKE “HERBAL VIT”
Medan, September 03, 2024 - The USU Faculty of Vocational Education collaborated with UiTM Pulau Pinang to conduct community service in partnership with Denai Sarang Burung Village, Deli Serdang Regency. In this case, the USU Faculty of Vocational Education with the head of the service implementation team, namely Dr. Yasmin Chairunisa Muchtar, SP., M.BA, and member Jane Melita Keliat, S.Si., M.Si. In addition, team members Dr. Muhammad Anggia Muchtar, ST, MMIT from the USU IT Facilkom and Inggrita Gusti Sari Nasution, SE, M.Si from FEB USU. The team from UiTM Pulau Pinang is Associate Prof. Dr. Azila Azmi and Dr. Rafidhah.
International Community Service activities were carried out on August 08, 2024, in Denai Sarang Burung Village and continued on Tuesday, September 03, 2024, at the Faculty of Vocational Education. This activity included the transfer of knowledge about the benefits of herbs and a demo of making “Herbal Vit” products to mothers in Denai Sarang Burung Village. The team from UiTM Pulau Pinang transferred knowledge about “Food Safety Culture.”
The Herbal Vit product is a processed product made from ginger, turmeric, and lemon, with the addition of honey and cow gelatin made into gummy candy. Herbal Vit uses honey and diabetasol to add a sweet taste, so this product is safe for diabetics to consume. “Initially, we hope that people can build a healthy lifestyle through herbal consumption. Then later, this product can increase people's income.” Explained Dr. Yasmin Chairunisa Muchtar, SP, M.BA.
“There needs to be further development on the shelf life of the product, so that it can sell well in the market,” said Dr. Rafidah. “We would like to thank the USU Vocational Community Service team for providing us with knowledge on how to make herbal gummy candies. We have formed a gummy candy group with 20 women members in Denai Sarang Burung Village. Later, mothers can increase family income through this business,” said Lerpida group leader. This Community Service is an International Community Service with funding sources from the Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2024.
