The 2025 Vocational Expo featured an innovation exhibitions, creative competitions, talk shows, and an open houses. The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting students performed brilliantly and won 3rd place for Best Booth.
Medan, November 22, 2025 –The Faculty of Vocational Education of the Universitas Sumatera Utara successfully held the Vocational Expo on November 20–22, 2025, as part of the third anniversary celebrations of the Faculty of Vocational Education. With the theme “Vocational Future Fair: Bridging Talent for Future Industry”, this event became a major gathering for university students, high school and vocational school students, industry partners, and the academic community.
Over the three days of the event, the Vocational Expo presented a variety of interesting and educational activities. Visitors can enjoy exhibitions of student innovation products, creative competitions, IDUKA exhibitions, job fairs, MSME bazaars, and inspirational talk shows with industry practitioners. In addition, the Vocational Faculty also held a Vocational Open House, where high school/vocational school students had the opportunity to learn more about all study programs through program branding sessions, interactive games, and college and career consultations.
As part of the competition series, the Vocational Faculty held various competitions to explore students' creativity and potential, ranging from innovation product competitions, scientific poster competitions, fashion show: nusantara fabric creation, and the art performances such as acoustic bands.
The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting students actively participated in the innovation product, scientific poster, and fashion show categories. This demonstrated their significant contribution in the fields of creativity, sustainability, and problem-solving-based idea development. In the innovation product competition, students produced six outstanding works:
Trash to Cash – a website platform that exchanges recycled waste for points, credit, or money to encourage more environmentally friendly waste management.
Limane/Ayam Suwir Sambal Andaliman – an authentic Indonesian culinary dish with a distinctive andaliman flavor that offers a unique combination of fresh and spicy tastes.
Ecobrick Furniture – furniture innovation from plastic waste into functional furniture that supports the circular economy and aligns with SDGs 7, 8, and 9.
Glow Cycle – creativity in recycling paper and cardboard waste into aesthetic and sustainable mirror frames that support environmentally friendly practices in line with SDGs 11 and 12.
Room freshener based on used cooking oil – an eco-friendly innovation that purifies used cooking oil into an economical aroma diffuser.
Bag Craft – handmade bags made from recycled fabric and thrifted clothing that offer a modern style while promoting the spirit of upcycling.
In the scientific poster category, the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting students presented three works:
Transformation Organic Waste into Ecoenzymes & POC, which showed an 80% increase in public knowledge through an organic waste management education program.
The Effectiveness of TKKS Activated Charcoal as a Bio-Adsorbent in Reducing ALB Levels in Used Cooking Oil, a collaboration with D4 Applied Chemistry that offers a recycling solution based on SDGs 7 and 12.
Matcha Boy: Realizing SDGs 8, a study of MSMEs as a model for job creation that meets Decent Work standards and worker protection.
Meanwhile, at the Nusantara Fabric Creation Fashion Show competition, students presented batik-based fashion concepts that harmoniously blended cultural heritage with modern styles. Oversized suit and blazer silhouettes were combined with authentic batik motifs, creating fashion pieces that represented the character of a confident, innovative, and culturally-rooted vocational generation.
The Vocational Expo also featured a talk show themed “Bridging Tradition to Innovation: Building a Creative Industry Based on Traditional Fabrics” with Torang Maruli Tua Sitorus as the guest speaker. This talk show served as a source of inspiration for students to understand the development of the culture-based creative industry and prepare themselves to face the challenges of the future industry.
At the peak of the celebration, various awards were announced for the competition winners. The Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting students won third place for the best booth, because their creative design, teamwork, and enthusiasm in educating visitors.
Overall, the series of activities at the 2025 Vocational Expo not only presented a lively event but also emphasized the ability of vocational students to produce innovative and applicable works. The success of the Applied Bachelor's Degree Program in Public Sector Accounting students in winning the third place for the best booth was a sweet ending to three days of collaboration and inspiration. This achievement is a source of pride, reflecting dedication, creativity, and solid teamwork.
