The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara, organized a two-day Workshop on Enhancing Vocational Learning Competence through Project- and Case-Based Methods.

Medan, October 17, 2025 — The Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a two-day Workshop on Enhancing Vocational Learning Competence through Project- and Case-Based Methods. The program aimed to strengthen the implementation of learning approaches that are practical, collaborative, and focused on solving real-world industrial problems.

The workshop consisted of two main sessions: a Sharing Session, conducted online via Zoom on Thursday, October 9, 2025, and a Coaching Clinic, held offline on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Mikie Wijaya Hall, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) USU. The event was attended by Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs, as well as homebase lecturers from each study program within the Faculty of Vocational Education.

The Coaching Clinic session began with an opening remark from Dr. Yasmin Chairunisa Muchtar, S.P., MBA., Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Vocational Education, who emphasized the importance of strengthening Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Case Method as tangible applications of vocational education aligned with workforce and industry needs.

Following the opening session, souvenirs were presented to both speakers as a token of appreciation for their contribution and dedication to improving the quality of teaching at the Faculty. The session was moderated by Juli Novita Sari, S.Si., M.Si., who guided the event in an engaging and interactive manner.

The first speaker, Ria Anggraini, S.ST., MBA., CDTP, delivered a presentation on “Designing Project- and Case-Based Learning in Vocational Education.” She emphasized the importance of designing student-centered learning activities that enhance analytical, communication, and collaboration skills essential in the professional world.

The second speaker, Hamdani Arif, S.Pd., M.Sc., discussed “Implementation and Evaluation of Project-Based Learning and Case Method Effectiveness.” He outlined key implementation stages—from project planning and team formation to progress monitoring and performance-based assessment—and highlighted the importance of using objective and transparent grading rubrics, along with strategies to overcome challenges in vocational classrooms.

After both presentations, the workshop continued with a lively discussion and Q&A session, where lecturers actively exchanged insights and experiences regarding the application of project- and case-based learning in their respective programs. The workshop concluded with a summary underscoring the importance of continuous pedagogical innovation, synergy between academia and industry, and the readiness of lecturers to design learning activities that cultivate creative, solution-oriented, and competitive vocational graduates in the modern era.
